We are an academic laboratory at a Swiss University. Our work deals with biotechnology of bacteria and involves works at the interface between biology and chemistry.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
We are invited to design a cover for the scientific journal "Trends in Biotechnology" (see example covers here: http://www.cell.com/trends/biotechn…y/archive). This journal addresses a broad scientific readership and looks for covers which convey a scientific topic in a simplified or artistic way, so the overall appearance is more important than going into too much scientific details.
The cover should be an illustration of a "cyborg enzyme" which contains a rare metal complex which could be placed in a cell (biological cell). Since these enzymes represent a mixture between natural life and technology/chemistry, we would like the cover image to convey this mix by some kind of cyborg-like graphics (see example). To this end, the cell could be "cyborgized" or drawn in a technical way or a cyborg as drawn in the sketch, which carries the metal atom as the "eye". Also elements of a technical sketch would be fine. Importantly the structure of a protein/enzyme needs to be incorporated (see also examples).
Since we work with different metals from the periodic table (Ru, Ir, Fe, Rh, Zn, Mn) a stylized periodic table highlighting those elements would be nice as a background motiv.
Creative ideas on conveying this mix between biology and chemistry/technology are welcome.
Importantly, the cyborg theme should not be overstretched, we do not want to create the impression of an "aggressive robot".
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any additional material/info from our side.
