sandrawechsler got their new logo design by running a design contest:
New policy org needs a great logo!
Check out sandrawechsler's Logo design contest…
NM Now will take on one big policy at a time, with a well-researched and innovative policy solution, backed by a lot of paid advertising, coalition building, and local organizing throughout the state. The first issue will be funding Pre-K statewide (surprise surprise!) but the next issue could be totally different from education-related matters. We really want the logo to speak to the values of Family and Opportunity, defined below (from a ton of public opinion research we did): Family What it means: We believe… raising the next generation of New Mexicans to be successful will require strong families and strong communities. Government should… serve hardworking families and invest in our state and communities so our children want to and can live here when they are grown. How to talk about it: Go on the offensive here – policies that strengthen families and communities are one of our biggest strengths, and we can draw an effective contrast by showing how conservative policies weaken them. Stay forward-looking in tone. Leading with the negative, and emphasizing how many kids in New Mexico don’t have strong families or safe communities hinders our message. Applying to issues: Education: We need to make smart investments in our kids – and that means increasing resources to public schools while ensuring those dollars go to classrooms. Education/Public Safety: We can’t be short-sighted when it comes to our kids. Investments in education are investments in safe communities and future economic success. Opportunity What it means: We believe… everyone – not just those with connections – should have opportunities to better themselves. Government should… create opportunities for people who want to work hard. How to talk about it: Show how our opponents put ideology ahead of what’s best for New Mexicans – a top pain point in the state. Tap into New Mexicans’ aspiration for financial freedom by emphasizing that progressive policies will offer them financial flexibility and the freedom to live the life they want. Show that progressives connect opportunity with individual agency and work – i.e. show that we want to create opportunity for people to better themselves rather than remove obstacles from people’s paths. Applying to issues: Economy: Republicans put political ideology ahead of New Mexico’s economy. They’d rather protect the big oil and gas interests that fund their campaigns than allow the clean energy industry to thrive here. Economy: Economic freedom is about creating opportunities so people can better themselves with hard work. That means good schools, safe communities and jobs that let you balance work and family Role of government: We need a government that serves hardworking families and every day New Mexicans – not just the well-off and well-connected elites, or those with insider ties. Design Guidance: We want to capture feelings like forward-thinking, innovative, focused, impactful, and rooted in NM.
