Hi! I know this brief starts out kind of boring, but please, if you're going to skim, at least read the "ABOUT PETTIGREW," "THEMES TO CONVEY" and "ONE MORE THING" sections before you decide if you want to participate in this contest :)....
I'm attaching a style guide and an .eps file of the "PETTIGREW" logo. See below for explanation/instructions.
The client wants the PETTIGREW Infotech logo (the new logo you're designing) to incorporate the "PETTIGREW" parent company logo (the attached .eps file) within the design of the new logo, so that it will be apparent that this is a related company. Note: The full name of the parent company is "PETTIGREW - Healthcare Profitability Solutions" and you'll see in the attached style guide that they use the text "Healthcare Profitability Solutions" beneath PETTIGREW. You only need to use the "PETTIGREW" part of the logo in the new design, not the "Healthcare Profitability Solutions" part.
For this new logo, you can add different fonts for the "Infotech" part of the logo and the tagline, and you can incorporate a new graphic into the design if you desire, as long as the original "PETTIGREW" logo is contained within the new design.
The parent company, PETTIGREW, also has a suite of other logos (for another related company, and for their many software products), and they would like the color scheme to stay within the family of colors already used for these logos (see attached style guide for PMS colors). You can use any of the colors within the style guide, but no outside colors.
The only thing you need to pay attention to in the style guide is the original "PETTIGREW" logo and the colors used in their suite of logos so you know the available colors you can use in this design - You don't need to follow any of the other guidelines in the style guide!
PETTIGREW is a family-owned company that originally got into the medical billing and medical billing software business, and are now wanting to branch out into developing software for other industries. They have hired me to help them to help with their branding and marketing efforts. While their current image is very traditional, they have expressed that they're open to a more down-to-earth and playful image. We're in the beginning phase of that transformation (the website has not been updated yet), but I'm hopeful that I will see some innovative ideas here that will help me continue to preach that "professional" does not have to equal boring design. I've attached a couple of pages from the website I'm re-designing for the parent company, PETTIGREW Healthcare Profitability Solutions, so you can get a feel for the direction I'm taking them (their current website is http://pettigrew-medical.com/, but please do NOT use that as design inspiration!).
THEMES TO CONVEY:
The themes we want to communicate with this new logo are innovation, technology, and problem-solving, as this is a software development company. Basically, if you have an idea for a software, they will build it. Perhaps a more descriptive tagline would be: "Solving the world's problems, one line of code at a time" or "If you can dream it, we can develop it" - We might use those types of statements on their marketing collateral/website, though, so you can use that for inspiration when designing.
ONE MORE THING:
I know this is a bit of a challenge, because you have to incorporate an existing logo, but still make the new logo different and exciting (and, preferably, not boring), but I know you're up for the challenge!
I'm a trained graphic designer (now creative director) myself, so I will try to give as much helpful feedback/direction as I can.
I will definitely be looking to hook up with good designers on 99designs for future work (and other clients) as well, so that's a potential benefit to entering this contest - Even if this client doesn't end up picking your design, if I like you, you'll go in my book for future work ;).
Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions!
