(English Text below) Das 3R-Prinzip steht in der biomedizinischen Wisswenschaft für "Replace, Reduce, Refine". Ziel dieses Prinzips ist es, Tierversuche vollständig durch geeignete Alternativmethoden zu ersetzen (Replace), die Zahl der Versuche und der darin verwendeten Tiere auf ein sinnvolles Minimum zu reduzieren (Reduce) sowie die Leiden der Tiere in den Versuchen auf das unerlässliche Maß zu beschränken (Refine). Das neu gegründete 3R-Center für In-vitro-Modelle und Tierversuchsalternativen, das gemeinsam von der Universität Tübingen und dem Naturwissenschaftlichen und Medizinischen Institut (NMI) in Reutlingen getragen und vom Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst (MWK) finanziert wird, soll allen Wissenschaftler*innen in Baden-Württemberg einen niederschwelligen Zugang zu neuartigen Alternativmethoden ermöglichen. Durch die Stärkung der Forschungskompetenzen soll ein breites, interdisziplinäres Bewusstsein für diese neuen Ansätze geschaffen werden, sodass Ersatzmethoden in der Praxis breitflächig und routinemäßig zielgerichtet angewandt werden können, um die Anzahl an Tierversuchen nachhaltig auf ein notwendiges Minimum zu reduzieren. Ferner wird das landesweite Querschnitts-Center die 3R-Thematik in Forschungslandschaft, Politik und Öffentlichkeit in Baden-Württemberg vertreten sowie den Austausch und die enge Vernetzung durch Information, Kommunikation sowie die Etablierung von Trainingsprogrammen und Workshops aktiv unterstützen und fördern. - - - - - - - - - - In biomedical science, the 3Rs principle stands for "Replace, Reduce, Refine". The ultimate goal of this principle is to replace animal experiments with suitable alternative methods (Replace). If this is not possible, the number of experiments and the number of animals used in them should be reduced to a reasonable minimum (Reduce) and the distress (suffering, pain, stress) of the laboratory animals in the experiments has to be prevented as far as possible or reduced to an indispensable minimum (Refine). The 3R Center Tübingen for In vitro Models and Alternatives to Animal Testing is a collaborative research center between the University Hospital Tübingen and the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute (NMI) Reutlingen, tasked by the BW Ministry of Science, Research and Arts (MWK). It aims to provide all scientists in Baden-Württemberg with low-threshold access to novel alternative methods to animal testing. By strengthening research competencies, an interdisciplinary awareness of these new approaches is to be created so that alternative methods can be applied widely and routinely in practice in a targeted manner in order to reduce the number of animal experiments to an absolute necessary minimum in the long term. Furthermore, the state-wide cross-sectional center will represent the 3Rs topic in the research landscape, politics and the broad public in Baden-Württemberg and actively support and promote exchange and profound networking through information, communication and the establishment of training programs and workshops.

The logo should be used on the website (http://www.3rtuebingen.de) and as a profile picture for Social Media Acounts.
