Jason_Livingood got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create logo for a special ops tech team making research a reality!

R = Research Werks = German word for factory R-Werks is a research & innovation "factory". R-Werks is kind of like a "skunk works" in a way. We are operating "under the radar" or behind the scenes at a large company, working outside of the traditional boundaries of what is permissible in a large company to develop special new experimental products and services. The R-Werks name is one that will be used internally and will help create some esprit de corp on the team and some good internal marketing buzz. We take our inspiration from many places. For example, from the German "werks" racing teams of Porsche and BMW that developed cutting edge new technology at the racetrack like turbo-charging and traction control. And by Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works that developed spy planes like the U-2 and SR-71 Blackbird and stealth technology (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skunk_Works). And also from the special operations groups like the CIA's Special Activities Division (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Activities_Division) or British Special Operations Executive (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Operations_Executive) that create a small cadre of advanced personnel inside larger organizations. And by the former BellLabs (telecom) or Xerox PARC (led to the Macintosh) that developed cutting edge new technologies within large companies like Bell Telephone or Xerox. And finally by special small performance teams at large auto makers that create special high performance editions, like BMW's M team (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M), Mercedes' AMG team (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-AMG), and Ford's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Vehicle_Operations). We are an Internet technology team that is focused on collaborating with researchers and conducting research and figuring out ways to bring novel technical solutions to market. We engage very OPENLY with the Internet community and researchers around the world to do so, and are very experimental. Some things will work and some things will fail, and that is fine because the ones that work can be super valuable. The research-based innovations that we put into our 'factory' team are varied. Some might be things to make your Internet connection faster while others might help protect your privacy online.
Other color requirements
I'd like to explore the following colors: Dark neutrals: Formality, mystery, exclusivity and luxury. Let designers make suggestions: Blues: Knowledge, trust, calm and honesty.

And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
