continuumIO got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Anaconda needs a new logo

Continuum Analytics is a company centered around tools for data analytics and visualization using the Python programming language. Our tools and services are used by many industries and titles, but the common thread is that all of the individuals who use the tools are working with data and trying to find actionable insights from it. We're currently looking for a logo for two of our main products, Anaconda and Wakari. This design brief is for Anaconda ONLY. Anaconda is a “software distribution” of the Python programming language and many (90+) of its most popular packages for data analysis. We sell it as “Python for Big Data” and “Python for Analytics”. Anaconda is the foundation platform of our product set, and many of our other tools are add-ons to it. More information: https://store.continuum.io/cshop/anaconda/
Logo types to explore
As mentioned in the description, Anaconda is the foundation of many of our tools. Ideally, we'd like the logo to not clash with the Continuum Analytics logo, but also lend itself to (future) subproduct logos that fit with it too. Additionally, it should be noted that the community around the Python programming language has certain key elements in its culture. The language itself is named after Monty Python, and there are numerous snake-related references and jokes in the ecosystem. The logo for Python itself can be found at http://python.org. Although having a logo that jives with these themes is nice, it is not a requirement. (However, it is a requirement that our logo cannot be confused with or be too similar to the Python.org logo.) 8/15 Update: The logo does not *need* to include a snake. This is just an option of one direction to go. As hinted above, we've talked about potentially creating logos for products which work alongside Anaconda (Wakari and Binstar) and Anaconda add-ons (Accelerate, IOPro, and MKL), so the logo should be something that is versatile. Also, if you'd like to include it, the official Continuum font is Gotham.
