Please recommend the best paper to use for our business cards – color, weight, etc.
For purposes of establishing a general design approach, here is the back story on our name – Fourth Turning Capital Management, LLC :
A semi-famous Russian economist named Nikolai Kondratiev developed the “long wave economic cycle” theory, which basically says that both social and economic history runs in an 80 to 100 year cycle. That cycle has four “seasons”, of 20-25 years each, which generally have similar characteristics. The name for this hedge fund management company was inspired by Neil Howe’s book The Fourth Turning (see http://www.fourthturning.com), which basically explains the cycle theory. The “Fourth Turning”, or “Kondratiev Winter” is the last season in the cycle, and it typically includes the worst times in history. For example, the last few “Fourth Turnings” or Winter seasons included the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the Great Depression/World War II. We are now about half way through a fourth turning that began with the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
The mission of the company is to manage investments with an awareness that we’re in a Fourth Turning and that there is considerably more systemic risk in financial markets than the media would have us believe. The graphics should somehow communicate the idea of being in a fourth turning. One idea might be four identical geometric shapes that somehow connote or represent seasons, with one of them in the 4th position either curling up at the edge or otherwise communicating the concept of being in the middle of the 4th season in the long-wave cycle. But that’s just one example, not a requirement. You’re the designer; use your own creativity to decide the best way to visually communicate the concept.
The design should be complimentary with and work in harmony with the attached logo for Renovatio Fund, the hedge fund we manage. We have a logo for the fund (provided) but are not married to it. You may either design the Fourth Turning art to look good next to the Renovatio Fund logo, or if you hate this logo you’re welcome to include a replacement for it in your submission. The business cards should have both logos on them. The prominent logo on the card should be the new FTCM logo you design, and the Renovatio Fund logo should appear less prominently. Basically, FTCM is the name of the company and Renovatio Fund, LP is the name of its primary product offering. The full name “Fourth Turning Capital Management, LLC” should be spelled out on the business card. We can’t decide whether it should also include “FTCM” in some sort of emblem logo – we’d consider designs either way.
