How statum6 started their logo & business card journey
Who are you known as?
Stratum Petroleum (We want Stratum to be the more dominant word because we have other entities associated such as Stratum Operating, Stratum Resources, etc.)
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are an oil and gas drilling and production company. We acquire oil and gas wells and drill new oil and gas wells. Our target audience includes other oil and gas companies (primarily the C-suite executive level people); financial capital lending institutions; private equity firms; and oil and gas service providers. These are mostly males, ages 45-65 years, mostly U.S. based, with high education levels, and very familiar with all oil and gas related terms and descriptions. Designs that incorporate an image that depicts earth layers are what we are looking for.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
What colors do you want to see in your design?
Other color requirements
It is our thinking that earth tone colors may be best because stratum represents layers of the earth. The definition of stratum is a bed of sedimentary rock which for our purposes is where some layers will contain oil and/or gas, so possibly use colors to show the oil/gas layer. But we want to have some strong energy coming from the colors. We are comfortable with a logo that works on a black or dark grey background if that could work. You can look at our current website and see the earthy colors we have now http://www.stratumpetroleum.com.
To give us an idea of the overall feeling of your brand, let us know which styles you lean towards
We typically like the work that John Perez does. http://www.geoart.com/ He specializes in the oil & gas industry. His log examples can be found at http://www.geoart.com/logos/. But as you look thru all his graphics and animations you'll see a lot of what we like. BUT, we want to try and stay away from the typical industry icons like oil rigs, pump jacks, and to some degree literal images of oil drops and gas flames.
We don't want to use cartoon type images. Avoid using literal images of industry icons such as drilling rigs or pump jacks, etc. The name stratum represents the geological layers of the earth in which hydrocarbons exist. We are looking for more abstract images representing the earth's STRATUM.
