CoveyBoost is a webapp that makes it easy to provide weekly performance feedback between managers and their employees.
The actual app behind the landing page uses colors from https://flatuicolors.com/ for a "card" interface. The landing page doesn't need to use those colors exactly, but shouldn't be too much of a jolt going from the landing page to the app. A covey is a group of quail...if you do a google image search for "California quail" you'll see a bunch of pictures (obviously). They have this really cool grey/blue neck, throat, chest area that blends into this flake like gold feather area. I kinda like the idea of the "hero image" being an abstract design that is inspired by that blue to gold fade. The general theme should be a professional software-as-a-service landing page targeted at tech savvy users. I'd also like to stay away from stock photography and focus more on iconography instead.
Elements to include in the landing page
- Menu bar - abstract (probably) hero section (not a fan of stock images of people) - early access email sign up form with headline, input, button - text section - 3/5 feature cards - quick how it works (maybe like the dronebase.com section) - about section - second get started bar - footer
I've been a full stack engineer for a long time, so i can probably implement most things, but I do like clean, no-motion, fast loading sites best. So no parallax or fades. Also, I'm probably going to have the submit action result in simple popup confirmation modal. Here are a couple of the quail images that stick out to me: http://images.fineartamerica.com/images/artworkimages/mediumlarge/1/male-california-quail-sean-griffin.jpg https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/PHOTO/LARGE/california_quail_4.jpg https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/4d/12/99/4d1299e448470e7aee87567747cf07cb.jpg Oh, one more thing. I greatly prefer sites with fixed sized breakpoints. Currently the main content breakpoints I'm using are 1125px wide, 750px wide, and 375px wide. I'd like the content (logo top left, menu top right, text/image content) to fit into that 1125px max width. I can probably also translate sections into mobile friendly myself as well. Fonts...probably want to use no more than 2 fast loading google fonts. It would be super cool if we could make things look good with widespread system fonts so we don't have the performance penalty and the flash of unstyled text, but I know that's pretty limiting. Also, I'd like this to be a solid base to grow the full marketing site from...whatever that means. Think about us, pricing page, features page, blog. Don't need those designed obviously, but it might help inform the design knowing that's a goal. What else...my two favorite colors are blue and orange...peter river and carrot from https://flatuicolors.com/ probably. But don't feel limited by that. Just an FYI. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I'll probably be updating the website with better marketing copy and maybe an app image or two throughout the contest, but the basic layout will remain the same so you have a reference point. If I decide differently I'll upload an attachment with a screenshot of how it was laid out as of today. I just added two screenshots of the rating card managers/employees will use to rate themselves. This is the first major feature of the app. These sit alone on a page right now with a gray background. The only other things on those pages for now are the site header and footer.
