Many different websites take different approaches to event markers on a map. Many look something like this: http://mapicons.nicolasmollet.com
We like the simplicity of that design, but are looking for something that stands out from the crowd. Is there a new approach that can be taken that will set our markers apart from the generic?
Create a single marker design that will be used on a mapping web application. The final image will be a PNG. You have some freedom in your design as to what the final size should be, though the limits should probably be 30x30 at smallest to 50x50 at largest (not including any possible shadow or drop shadow, if your design calls for that, as those can extend beyond the actual marker area).
We would like to have a vector image delivered, however, so that we have the freedom to resize and change elements as needed.
When creating the preview image for the contest entries listing please put your marker against a Google Maps background so we can see it in context. The marker will contain an image representing the event that occurs at that marker on the map, and this image should be the dominant element in the marker. When creating your design please include an image, also for context. This pickup-truck icon would be fine: http://mapicons.nicolasmollet.com/m…kup-truck/, though feel free to change to fit your marker design.
Some other design guidelines are:
Simplicity. It should be easily readable, but still attractive and stand out.
It should fit in well within a Google Maps interface and not look out of place.
